The Soup Kitchen

The Soup Kitchen was born from very humble beginnings. The year was 2014, and Little Flower Clinic was then located on Memorial Drive across from the Pantry Shelf. One woman, Kristina Stollings, saw the need to help the less fortunate of our area after discovering a man rummaging through the clinic’s dumpster. Kristina soon began investigating and found out he, along with several others, was living under the downtown parking structure. The man was reluctant to receive any help at first, but soon, Kristina, with the help of a few employees, organized the very first feeding. Employee donations funded the feeding. They fed 15 people at that first event. This homeless man began to help serve and invite others to come and eat. He passed away in 2018, and his obituary mentioned the love he had for serving others through the feedings. Fast forward to today, and Kentucky Mountain Health Alliance, Inc, Little Flower Clinic is now located at 279 East Main Street, and the Soup Kitchen has a newly remodeled location complete with commercial kitchen equipment. This past November, the Soup Kitchen hosted its Thanksgiving, Free Community Feeding, and served 1000 meals. Once the new equipment is installed and inspections are passed, the goal of the Soup Kitchen is to transform the monthly feedings into a weekly event featuring hot home-cooked meals. A dream born long ago continues to thrive in the heart of Kristina Stollings today.
